Energy Union and the path of renewables: In sync?

European Union Sustainable Energy Week

In line with the European Union Sustainable Energy Week 2015 EUFORES organised a workshop to raise awareness and to develop better comprehension among Members of the European Parliament and the EU28 national parliaments of the ongoing political process within the EU concerning renewable energy with a special focus on the Energy Union. 


MEP and President of EUFORES, Claude Turmes identified shortcomings and urgent political needs for action on the European and national level to achieve the 2020 and 2030 goals and to establish future renewable energy targets.

Marie Donnelly, Director at DG Energer at the European Commission provided the participants with in-depth information on the Energy Union and explained its unique features. 

An overview on the current state of play in the Member States regarding their progress towards the 2020 and 2013 targets was represented by Gustav Resch, , Senior Researcher at the technology, Energy and Economics Group at the University of Technology of Vienna.

The presentations were followed by a panel discussion between Marie Donnelly (Director DG Energy, European Commission), Claude Turmes (MEP, President of EUFORES), ian Duncan (MEP), and Jeppe Kofod (MEP). The debate was moderated by the journalist Sinja van Renssen.
