EUFORES at 8th South-East European Congress in Sofia

 

EUFORES was invited to present its project Energy Efficiency Watch 2 at 8th South-East European Congress on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources, 28-30 March 2012, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Jan Geiss, EUFORES Secretary General and project coordinator, presented the main project ideas such as to collect market feedback on implementation of national energy efficiency policies. He also explained that more good policies are needed so that the 20% energy savings target is met. Daniel Becker, Senior Expert of Ecofys, elaborated on how best practice policies can be triggered. As there is no one-size-fits-all policy, he presented some common features of good practice policies rather than giving specific examples. Usually, policies work if they combine following policy instruments: mandatory measures, economic incentives and information/awareness raising campaigns. Daniel also called for a paradigm shift to a model in which profit margins grow as less energy is consumed.
